" It ran in your family until it ran into you. God says, You've been anointed to break the cycle. Generational curses stop with you"
The reality is that my story is not that different from those who grew up like I did. What makes my story remarkable, is that I give all the glory to my God. Growing up in a small town as a teen it was normal to be running around and drinking. Most of the time our parents drank to, so it was no big deal for us to follow in their foot steps. For more than a decade I would drink on a daily basis and hang out with my friends. Little did I understand what this made me look like. Let's be honest, most people experiment with alcohol in their younger years. The difference between myself and " most people" is that once I started, not only could I not stop, but I did not want to stop. So what was my turning point you ask? Well I got married to the love of my life and we started to have children, a beautiful brown headed, blue eyed little girl, and a handsome red headed, green eyed little boy. For the first years of both of their lives my drinking did not stop, nor did I want it to stop. Then one day my daughter, she was five at the time walked up to me and said " Daddy you don't believe in God do you?" My heart was completely broken to think my child thought that of me. I decided to throw my drink away and go to church with them. That night God changed me, he showed me what I had been missing for all those years - Him. I have not had the desire from that moment on to drink again. Now many years later I speak to youth about the daily struggles they go through and how God can and will help and heal them, just like he did me. They say it's darkest before dawn, cliché, but very true. Through Gods grace and love for me my relationship with him is stronger than ever.
I have been set free from alcohol for 28 years, I am strong and fighting to help others. God has blessed me for making a stand for him. Being married to my wonderful wife for 35 years, we have 4 daughters, 1 son, and 4 amazing grandchildren. I am truly blessed and may God have all the glory in everything I say and do.
